The Search for New Biomarkers

Research on new cancer biomarkers may lead to the development of new targeted therapies. Research to identify and develop new biomarkers begins with large-scale genetic studies. By collaborating with pharmaceutical companies, the biomarkers discovered can lead to the development of new targeted therapies that can be subjected to clinical trials and eventually lead to approved treatments. At the same time, the validation of analytical tests for these new biomarkers will be done in the laboratory and will also be the subject of an approval process. Research gives patients access to clinical studies and new molecules that would not otherwise be available.
